This is a beautiful photo of a beautiful staircase; classic critics would say not to let your subject touch a frame edge or co-incide with an extraneous line, but you have done it three times, four if we count the upper right corner. Did you compose for the contrast under the arch, or is it a happy accident ? Sad to say, it would be illegal to install a staircase like this today, because there are no hand rails.
I'm an American from North Carolina who lives in France. I speak French and love French cooking, history, and language — not to mention life in the Touraine wine country. Over the years I've spent time in Provence, Normandy, Paris, Illinois, Washington DC, and California. My husband Walt and I have been together for 37 years — the last 17 of those in the Loire Valley.

I composed (and cropped) for the shadow under the arch.
